It’s true: the Medicare Shared Savings Program (MSSP) has been an effective catalyst to spur providers to invest in accountable care initiatives. But today, regardless of CMS’ notice of proposed changes, if a provider has or expects to achieve savings in the MSSP program, Valence Health believes it’s in their best financial and strategic interest to also move to a Medicare Advantage (MA) model.

Compared to the MSSP, MA offers providers more control over patient populations and lets them accrue up to 100 percent of their savings. When considering the effects of risk adjustment and the opportunity to earn quality bonuses, the financial opportunity for providers grows. MA models also give providers more control over population health outcomes and endows them with key risk management and customer experience capabilities, skills that they can leverage with other payors.
